Fellowship with the Holy

Updated: Feb 11, 2020

As Believers, we must believe that God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and in all places. We must also be mindful that the name God is synonymous with Love, for "God is Love", according to these scriptures: "And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him". (I John 4:16 & I John 4:8). Primary Care is the first discipline, as outlined in the book entitled, Seven Disciplines of Wellness, The Spiritual Connection to Good Health. We basically use primary care to describe the shear awesomeness of God. To know the Holy trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), is beyond words and incomprehensible for humans. God shields us from His complete love by customizing what we can handle and when we can handle it. Primary Care in the Kingdom is an impressive experience.

God is with us at all times. The sad part is that many of us are not aware that we live in the "Presence of God". As Believers, we get to enjoy His nearness to us, during our coming and going, day-to-day lives, and also having the angels he has put in charge of protecting us. We also have Christ, with every benefit and promise God has ever given, included. This allows us to live sane, productive (fruitful) lives that glorify him. With this love, we move with God Confidence (Proverb 3:26) in great or not so great situations.

In the 1600s, there lived a monk known as Bro Lawrence. His real name is Nicolas Herman (1614-1691). He lived in France. Christians commonly remember him for his demonstration of love and the closeness he expressed concerning his relationship to God. His writings are recorded in a book compiled after his death, called, The Practice of the Presence of God. I realized that if these writings have survived over 300 years and are being read all over the world church today, the content must be a topic that is near and dear to God's heart... spending time with us!

I was simply stunned the moment I realized that God wants to be with me. What a joy it is to worship, praise and then have fellowship with a Holy God. In the dictionary, the word fellowship means: friendly association, especially with people who share one's interests. What a privilege it is to hangout with our Lord and all the saints and friends of God. Jesus, in the book of John chapter 14, describes our relationship to God our Father. He also explains how this relationship gives us fellowship, meaning, and direction in life. So this is what Jesus says to us; "...he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him". Folk that love Jesus get the Father's attention and His love. "If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him". (John 14:23 msg) We welcome this fellowship and want to stay in position to always have this fellowship. What can we do to have God hover over and dwell with us?

Prepare to be in fellowship with The Holy

Confess our sins and mistakes; thought, words, and deeds.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (1 John 1:8)

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. " (1 John 1:9)

"Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;" (Acts 3:19)

Be renewed in your mind (a new mindset)

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." (Romans 12:2)

Worship and give honor to God and His son Jesus the Christ

"There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god". (Psalms 81:9)

"But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him". (John 4:23)

Recognize that He is your source for everything (thoughts, breath, heartbeat, all things).

Acknowledge the Holy Spirit (Ghost) of God, using scripture to support your effort

"And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:" (John 20:22)

" ... how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"

(Luke 11:13)

Obey His commandments

"And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is,... And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength:... And the second is like, ... Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these." (Mark 12:29-31)

Be thankful and bless His name

"Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name." (Psalms 100:4)

Be still and know

"Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth". (Psalms 46:10)

Now we are prepared for fellowship. Note that getting ready is using scriptures and our confessions of faith. We must point our minds to the awesome reality of God. As we believe in Christ, and because we have accepted him into our hearts, we can acknowledge that our relation with the Holy is a supernatural occurrence in the Spirit realm. This is not some Harry Potter, or mystical illusion. If you need more primary care to keep believing and growing, you will find it in fellowship with "The Holy".

Prayer

Holy Father, please seal my relationship with you 24 x 7 for the rest of my days. Help Jesus and Holy Spirit to operate in your presence, knowing full well that whatever I am doing is with you. Your holiness radiates and hovers over my world. Allow me to come and worship you with thanksgiving and then, be in stillness as I wait in your presence. For, in the presence of The Lord is fullness of joy (Acts 2:28). In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Hallelujah! Amen.
