God's Promises Made to You

Updated: Nov 26, 2019

Discussions about God's promises always excite me. God's promises are commitments that are written in the Bible, the true word of God. A promise often has a condition(s) attached. Whatever the condition, it is something doable for a believer and is far less than the huge act being performed by our Father because he promised. For example, "... whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved, ". (Acts 2:21) So if you want to be saved, you must call on His name.

Any promise without a stated condition uses by default our faith in him and the relationship we have through Jesus Christ. For example, " lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Matt 28:20)

Early in my walk as a believer, I was given a little book called God's Rainbow of Promises by Ernest Angley. I held onto it for years because it was so beneficial, and gave me the opportunity to memorize scripture. The fact that this book contained nothing but God's promises was even better. I realized that if God being who he is, said that this is something he will do, I can take this to the bank! Wait, this is beyond going to the bank, for me it was, "OK the God of the universe made this commitment to me?" Oh yes, I'm all in!

No Self Confidence

This is one of my go-to promises. The whole self-help industry, makes billions on how we can gain more self confidence. But God says: "For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken". (Proverbs 3:26)

This promise gave me so much relief. I realized that I don't need more "self confidence", I have "God confidence". I take this promise to meetings, when doing presentations or sharing the gospel.

What we need to remember is that promises are just as dependable and available to us today as they were from the beginning. God has not changed his mind about what he said he'd do. Know that there are hundreds of promises God has made. We can rely on them in time of need. As we use our faith in trying times, the Holy Spirit will remind us of those promises. It is written:

"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost,... , [shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you]". (John 14:26) If we have learned the promises, God will remind us of what he said when we need it. This fuels our faith, improves our well-being, and establishes our position in the kingdom. The word of God is powerful and effective. Scripture states that: "His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what". (Hebrew 4:12) msg

So when we use the promises as written in scripture, we are cutting into the situation with the word of God, which effectively changes the trajectory of the situation. Sometimes we will have to use a promise on a situation and then be still. For example: "No weapon that is formed against thee (me) shall prosper"; (Isaiah 54:17). Perhaps you may need this at work.

When feeling intimidated: " Seest thou a man [woman] diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men." (Proverbs 22:29)

When under attack: " Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies thy footstool" (Luke 20:41-43)

For better sleep: "When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet." (Proverbs 3:24)

To remove the confusion: "For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace,...". (I Cor 14:33)

In need of forgiveness: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (I John 1:9)

There are many many more. If you can say "it is written" and then state the promised in faith, this is a powerful fiery dart that no evil can withstand.

Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for teaching us how to live successfully by pulling your active word down into our situation daily, In Jesus Name, Amen.
