The Power Within Social Distancing

Updated: Jul 26, 2021

The blessing of social distancing in this current pandemic caused by COVID-19 for many of us, is that it has presented an opportunity of forced silence and separation that we rarely if ever get. We have to pull away from the norms, missing family, friends and places.

We have worn out all social media outlets, over stimulating ourselves and still not reaching whatever we think should be fulfilled with whatever needs to be filled.

For the believer, the only answer is to go to Christ. A chance to pull away, be renewed in our minds and think in the newness of it all. We get to open up God's word and get some peace and understanding about our walk with Him. He has been watching and waiting for us to realize that No thing and No one can or should take his place.

So how do we get into the presence of the Lord? Scripture instructs us to “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. ”Psalms 100:4 KJV

Giving thanks

Do you have 5 things you can list to be thankful for? Here is a start; life, health, strength, food, shelter...). Do you have a thanksgiving song? Here is one: Thank you Lord (3 times), I just want to Thank you Lord. These are like holy incense going before you to the throne room of God. Say this: "O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever" , then say "I do thank you Lord for, (say your five things and any other blessings that come to mind).

Praise

Become conscious of your breathing. Why? Scripture says, "Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord" (Psalms 150:6). So with eyes closed, take a few deep breaths, each time realizing the power of God in your breathing, and accepting it as a gift from Him. He did not have to give it. But he did and he does constantly! Say, "With this breath, I will praise you dear Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever " (Psalms 107:1) "

Bless

Say this "Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name." (Psalms 63:4). Now declare this verse, "Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name" (Psalms 103:1). With this we take our blessing, a gift from God, and give it back to Him. So the blessing is all around and continuous. Know that "The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace." (Psalms 29:11). Oh yes, this is a promise.

Confess Faults or Sins, Forgiveness

Sin is something we do. It is a verb, an act that is unholy, not truthful or right. We need to collect those sins, and based on the blood of Jesus, we pray, "Father forgive me of my sins. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (Romans 3:23) and that includes me. Forgive me of my sins, In Jesus Name".

Forgive Others

The Holy Spirit is available right where you are to help you forgive others. And when you do, look what Jesus says about it: "For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. (Matthew 6:14)

Learning to Pray

No big deal! Right where you are, pray what Jesus gave to his disciples when they asked how to pray:

"Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen." (Matthew 6:9-13)

You just spent priceless moments doing what our Father wants you to do -- spend time with Him. As his children, believers are already blessed according to Genesis 1:28. But when you consciously spend time with him, you turn up the blessing a few notches. You get his attention in a special way. This is social distancing at its finest. Experience the power. Do this as often as you can.

So as God heals our land and we begin to reconnect with the old way of living, go slow. Carefully and prayerfully evaluating each item, organizations, business, relationships and habits. The Holy Spirit will show you those items that you should permanently distance yourself from.

God created us to be social. He has not changed his mind about that, including fellowship, hands being laid on for healing, touching and agreeing, and sharing meals. Remember, God still has a desire to be with you.

Next Level Social Distancing

  1. Then go to the next level by reading scriptures in the Holy Bible. When you do that, it is like saying "let me see what God has to say about things". A good place to jump in is to read the part of the New Testament words of Christ. Christ's words are always in red and they help us know more about his personality, purpose (mission) and the love that led him to the cross.

  2. Enhance your prayer life by praying scripture. Pray God's Promises or Words from the book of Psalms or Proverbs.

  3. Create small prayer partnerships. This could include the sick, elderly, friends or family. Connect by phone. Set up a conference call using free conference call software. You can also use Facetime or Skype.

"Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full." 2 John 1:12
